Historic St. Cecilia’s gym to get second life thanks to Mitch Albom’s nonprofit and ex-Microsoft CEO

Southfield-based charity Say Detroit is launching a $12 million-plus project to convert the storied St. Cecilia School and Gym, a west-side Detroit site where many NBA legends sharpened their skills, into its second youth academic, enrichment and recreation center.
The new site will provide additional space to help the nonprofit meet demand for its youth programs in the city.
Detroit-based McIntosh Poris Architects and Sachse Construction are overseeing the project, which is expected to incorporate solar panels on the roof and other environmentally friendly features, Kelley said.
