YEAR: 2018-2021

McIntosh Poris Architects designed the 1,800-sf ground-floor retail space, bar and private dining room as well as the new storefront highlighted by the original stained-glass clerestory window. The historic window, previously covered, now glows at night through the use of updated interior lighting. The newly-designed storefront with fluted pilasters and brass-accented panels retains the historic look and feel of the building.

A large, curved bar with traditional millwork details is the focal point when entering the space. Eclectic blue and white tile set the color palette for the café and bar and inspired the laser-cut wood ceiling. The mosaic tile, subway tile, antique mirror and schoolhouse pendants complete the vintage look and feel of the space.

Custom black metal retail displays with an industrial feel are featured on the exposed brick wall original to the building. An oversized industrial barn door with inset metal mesh was designed as a focal point in the private dining space which is highlighted by luxurious velvet draperies. An oversized industrial wine case is home Bakalikon's ample wine selection.
