MPA was commissioned to transform artist-in-residence units into corporate offices for The Council of Michigan Foundations (CMF). The redesign includes open workspaces, private offices, a kitchenette break area, a boardroom, and accessible restrooms. Features of the office layout comprise a reception area, seven private offices (including an executive office), seven open workstations, a break room, a phone room, and a boardroom with a kitchenette.
The space retains three skylights, uneven herringbone wood flooring, and historic brick walls, while six artist-in-residence units will be demolished. Design elements include a wood grid ceiling, a custom mural, and colorful fabric accents, merging original brick with new pale oak flooring to create a historic yet natural ambiance. Modern technology such as touchless faucets and wall-mounted monitors is incorporated throughout.
The overall design not only updates the artist-in-residence area into a modern corporate office but also harmonizes artistic features with historical attributes, fostering an inviting environment for employees and visitors.
