Prime + Proper

CLIENT: Heirloom Hospitality Group, LLC
LOCATION: Detroit, MI
YEAR: 2017

McIntosh Poris Architects were tasked with bringing the Prime + Proper concept and branding to reality by offering space planning solutions, developing concepts, selecting fixtures and finishes, and adding the details to the interiors of this building to create an atmosphere of dining and social engagement that is unique to Detroit.

Prime + Proper’s décor and cuisine meet at the intersection of luxury and artistry. The restaurant is intentionally arrangedinto distinctive spaces, breaking up the redundancy of steakhouse dining. A combination of booths and banquettes provides areas for intimate conversations, while the open kitchen showcases a custom-built wood burning grill, glass-enclosed interactive butcher counter, raw bar, and wine displays to allow the cuisine to be part of the décor. The chef’s table features walls lined with projecting butcher block pieces—the same wood used to cut steaks.

The 2.3 million dollar project has comfortable seating 20 at the bar, 130 in the dining room, 20 in the dining room downstairs, 75 in the lounge and 77 outdoor in the spring and summer. The restaurant began construction in October of 2016, and opened its doors in November 2017, and has since been featured in Hospitality Design as a top culinary addition to Detroit’s Capital Park District, won an AIA Los Angeles Restaurant Honor Award, and an AIA Michigan Honor Award.
