LOCATION: Detroit, MI
YEAR: 2022-Ongoing

The proposed 8-story mixed-use residential building in Detroit's Harmonie Park Historic District aims to revitalize a currently underused area by replacing a parking lot and enhancing the street's appearance. The design, which respects the historical context, includes a stepped-back upper structure to match the scale of neighboring buildings. Key features include a façade that combines modern materials like glass with traditional brick and stone, as well as a parking garage that integrates seamlessly with the overall design, using window-like openings and greenery.

The ground floor will host commercial spaces to encourage local business and community interaction, while the upper floors will provide diverse residential units with amenities such as rooftop gardens and fitness areas. The project, led by the Michigan Chronicle's publisher, aims to honor the legacy of historic African American neighborhoods, including plans for an exhibition space celebrating this heritage. Sustainability initiatives include energy-efficient systems and native landscaping. Together, these elements aim to foster a vibrant, dynamic neighborhood that promotes a live-work-play lifestyle.
